3 rules to follow after getting eyelash extensions in 2023

Getting eyelash extensions is a great way to enhance your natural lashes while also saving money on mascara. Whether you want to create a dramatic look for an upcoming holiday party, or simply add some extra glamour to your daytime look, our salon professionals can give you show-stopping eyes right here in our Dubai beauty lounge.

While effective and safe, lash extensions can still be incredibly delicate, and they require some TLC and caution – especially in the first few days following your appointment. By following the tips in our guide below, you’ll be able to enjoy fuller, thicker lashes for longer. So, what are the most important rules after eyelash extensions? Let’s take a look.

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are like hair extensions, but for your lashes! In our Sisters lounge, one of our salon professionals will use semi-permanent lash adhesives to apply false lashes to your natural eyelashes. While this is an easy way to achieve longer, fuller lashes without makeup, there are certain rules you should follow afterwards to ensure that you’re able to keep both your eyes and your lashes healthy.

What to do after getting eyelash extensions

So, once you’ve got your eyelash extensions, what’s the best way to proceed to ensure they stay in place? Here are 3 tips from our certified salon experts on post eyelash extensions care:

Prevent your eyelashes from getting wet

To keep your lash lashes from dislodging, you’re going to want to keep your eyes from getting wet for at least 4-6 hours following your treatment. This means avoiding hot showers, saunas, swimming in pools or oceans, and yes, even crying!

It’s important to remember that while eyelash extensions do last longer than traditional non-permanent false lashes, they’re still incredibly fragile. The glue used to apply your lashes isn’t going to be able to withstand lots of friction and forced movement, so it’s best to take your shower the morning after your lash treatment. And still, try to avoid getting water in your eyes where possible!

Avoid rubbing or pulling at your eyes

It can be tempting to constantly touch and play with your lashes after getting your extensions, but this can cause them to become damaged or dislodged. Do your best to avoid touching your lash extensions where possible, and try to keep your hands away from your face, too. Remember that oil helps to dislodge lash extensions, and our palms are often naturally dirty and oily, even if it’s not visible to the naked eye. Avoid touching your lashes, and instead admire them in a hand mirror!

Choose the right makeup remover

While there are some eyelash extension-specific makeup removers on the market, you might also want to avoid using these around your eyes for the first few days after your treatment. Instead, opt for gentle makeup removers that don’t contain any harsh chemicals or oils, as these can both dislodge, damage, and irritate your eyes when lash extensions are applied.

How do I wash my face after lash extensions?

This is a common question, and the answer is simple: avoid the eye area for the first night following your treatment. Rather than use water to splash at your face and remove makeup, use a soft wash cloth, and take care to avoid the eyes and under-eye area while doing so.

After 24 hours, you should be able to wash your face with water and a cleanser as normal. You can always speak with your salon specialist for advice on cleansing your eyelash extensions, and for advice on finding a lash-extension-friendly cleanser.

How do I sleep with lash extensions?

If you want to avoid waking up with half of your lash extensions dislodged, you’re going to want to adapt how you sleep. To keep your lash extensions in place, it’s best to sleep on your back – this will prevent any friction against your pillow from impacting the adhesive.
